BAKFlip MX4 Rails – Factory Replacement Rail Kit
Our factory replacement rail kit is engineered to restore your BAKFlip MX4 tonneau cover to original performance standards. Each set includes precision-machined aluminum rails with integrated drainage channels, corrosion-resistant hardware, and our signature mounting clamps.
Designed for truck owners who demand OEM-quality parts, these rails deliver the same secure fit and weather-tight seal you experienced on day one. We build every component to withstand years of highway driving, cargo hauling, and extreme weather exposure.
- Precision-machined 6063-T6 aluminum construction for lightweight strength
- Integrated drainage channels route water away from bed rails
- Pre-drilled mounting holes align with factory tonneau cover hinge points
- Corrosion-resistant powder coat finish in matte black
- Includes all stainless steel mounting hardware and installation template
Materials & Construction

We manufacture BAKFlip MX4 rails from 6063-T6 aluminum alloy, the same aerospace-grade material specified in our original tonneau cover designs. This alloy offers an optimal strength-to-weight ratio while resisting oxidation in salt spray, rain, and UV exposure.
Each rail undergoes CNC machining to hold tolerances within 0.005 inches, ensuring precise alignment with your tonneau cover’s hinge mechanisms. Our powder coat finishing process applies multiple layers of matte black coating that bonds at the molecular level for chip resistance. The integrated drainage channels are milled directly into the rail profile to prevent water pooling along the bed edge.
Installation & Compatibility

Truck Bed Compatibility
Our BAKFlip MX4 rails fit all standard bed lengths when paired with the corresponding tonneau cover model. The rail kit works with short bed (5’7″ to 6’4″), standard bed (6’5″ to 6’9″), and long bed (8′) configurations across Ford, Chevy, GMC, Ram, Toyota, and Nissan trucks.
Pre-drilled mounting holes align with factory tonneau cover hinge brackets, eliminating guesswork during installation. We include a paper template that marks exact clamp positions along your bed rails.
Maintenance & Care

Clean BAKFlip MX4 rails quarterly using automotive soap and a soft-bristle brush. Rinse thoroughly to remove road salt, mud, and debris from the drainage channels. Avoid pressure washers above 1200 PSI, which can force water past the tonneau cover seals.
Inspect mounting clamps every six months for proper torque. We recommend 15 ft-lbs on all stainless steel fasteners to maintain secure attachment without overtightening. Apply a thin coat of silicone spray to the rail surface twice per year to preserve the powder coat finish and ensure smooth panel operation.

Common Questions About BAKFlip MX4 Rails
Our rails are compatible with all BAKFlip MX4 tonneau covers regardless of truck make or bed length. The rail kit works with the MX4 cover you already own, which was designed specifically for your truck model.
Verify your current tonneau cover is a BAKFlip MX4 by checking for the model label on the underside of the panels. If you have a different BAKFlip model like the G2 or F1, contact our parts team for the correct rail kit.
Common signs include visible cracks in the aluminum, bent sections from impact damage, loose mounting points that won't stay tight, water leaking into the bed along the rail line, or difficulty folding panels smoothly.
If your tonneau cover panels are sagging or won't lie flat when closed, worn rails are often the culprit. Inspect the rail surface for corrosion pitting or flaking powder coat, which can indicate the rails have reached the end of their service life.
We recommend removing all tonneau cover panels before installing new rails. This allows proper positioning of the mounting clamps and ensures the rails align correctly with your bed dimensions.
Leaving panels attached can lead to misalignment and binding during operation. The complete removal process takes about 15 minutes and prevents installation errors that could damage your tonneau cover.
You'll need a 10mm socket or wrench, a tape measure, and a torque wrench calibrated to 15 ft-lbs. We also recommend keeping a rubber mallet handy for seating the isolation pads and a permanent marker for marking clamp positions.
All necessary hardware comes with the rail kit. You won't need to purchase additional fasteners or specialty tools.
Under normal use conditions, our aluminum rails provide five to seven years of reliable service. Trucks operating in harsh environments like coastal areas, industrial job sites, or winter salt zones may see slightly shorter lifespans.
Regular cleaning and inspection extend rail life significantly. Truck owners who maintain their systems according to our care guidelines often exceed eight years on the original rail set.
We sell BAKFlip MX4 rails as a complete pair with all mounting hardware. The kit includes both driver-side and passenger-side rails along with eight clamps, fasteners, and rubber isolation pads.
We do not offer single rails because replacing only one side can create uneven tension across the tonneau cover panels, leading to premature wear on hinges and seals.
If the panels pop open while driving or won't latch securely, new rails may solve the problem when combined with fresh seals and properly adjusted tension controls. Rails that have developed play or warping can prevent the locking mechanism from engaging fully.
However, if your latch hardware is damaged or the tension adjusters are worn, you may also need those components. Inspect the entire tonneau cover system to identify all parts requiring replacement.
